Reaching Our Goal

On one of my first Sundays at Columbus First I said, “I have good news and bad news.” I went on to say, “The good news is that we have plenty of money, but the bad news is that most of it is in your pockets.” Last Sunday shared a very special Day of Service and are still hoping to raise at least $12,000 to underwrite the cost of more than 30,000 meals. These meals will feed 139 children for an entire year! The good news is that we have a good start, but the bad news is that we are a long way from our $12,000 goal. To help us reach our goal, you can make checks or online donations payable to Columbus First and write “Rise Against Hunger” in the “for” line. We have been in partnership with Rise Against Hunger for 15 years and at the conclusion of this Sunday’s Day of Service we will have packed over 240,000 meals and fed more than 1100 children for an entire year over that time. Our meals have been shipped to six different countries and met the needs of some of our most vulnerable neighbors. Feeding vulnerable neighbors reminds us of the words of Jesus, who said, “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat…for as you did it unto the least of these, you did unto Me.”

Last Sunday we gathered at 8:45 in our Traditional Sanctuary for our 5th Sunday combined worship service. We had our traditional choir and our contemporary band leading us in worship and I will be preaching on what we believe about “The Holy Catholic Church.” We celebrated two immersion baptisms in the service as well. One of the joys of our “Rise Against Hunger Serve Day” was that there is a place for everyone from 2 years old to 102 years old to serve. This is also a great Sunday to invite your family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors to join us, or if you missed it, invite your friends a

When we finish packing more than 30,000 meals, we will head across the street to enjoy a catered lunch that is free to everyone. This Sunday will be a day to remember as it is a Day of Salvation (baptisms), a day to better understand what we believe about Christ’s Church, a Day of Service, and a day of worshipping the Risen Lord together in word and deed. I hope you and yours will bring your serve day outfits, willing spirits, joyful worship, and expectant hearts for God to show up in ways beyond what we can think, ask, or even imagine.
